As part of the demilitarisation of your Rhineland, town's fortifications had to be dismantled. This was an opportunity to develop two environmentally friendly belts (Grüngürtel) round the metropolis by changing the fortifications and their fields of fire into massive community parks. This wasn't done until eventually 1933. In 1919 the University
